Description of Entrepreneurial Ventures:
VitaThread: Bioresorbable delivery technology for efficient, targeted cell delivery
Institute: WPI
Inventor/investigator/co-founder: Adam Collette
Abstract: VitaThread is developing an innovative bioresorbable delivery technology for efficient, targeted cell delivery offering the potential for improved cell therapy outcomes in multiple large-market applications including wound care and cardiac therapy. While cell therapy has been shown to provide a significant benefit to patients suffering from multiple pathologies, the efficacy of cell therapy is limited by low cell engraftment rates and poor delivery specificity. The VitaThreads platform empowers physicians to deliver cell therapy to the specific location where it is needed, substantially improving upon current cell therapy limitations.
Application: Cell therapy platform with applications in wound care and Cardiac therapy
Stage of development: Basic research – gene discovery
Pharmeva: Novel combination therapeutic for Chronic Hepatitis B
Institute: NA
Inventor/Investigator/Co-founder: XJ Zhou
Abstract: Pharmeva is developing a novel proprietary fixed-dose combination of lamivudine and adefovir dipivoxil (adefovir) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB), a persistent, potentially progressive necroinflammatory liver disease caused by chronic infection with HBV. Pharmeva’s novel fixed-dose combination is predicted to quickly emerge as a preferred first-line therapy for CHB, with rapid market penetration based on supplanting lamivudine and adefovir monotherapies in the HBV marketplace. Of note, together lamivudine and adefovir have the dominant market position in China, Southeast Asia and many other regions.
Applications: chronic Hepatitis B
Stage of development: Basic research – gene discovery
